Minneapolis Star Tribune – November 26, 2006

"Becki Taylor works in her home in Wausau, Wis., linked by phone and computer to the customer service call center of the Walgreen Co. pharmacy chain.

"She couldn't manage otherwise. An injury to her left hand restricts her typing to two hours at a stretch, which would be impractical if she had to come and go from a call center every two hours.

"She hopes soon to have a one-handed keyboard.

"Taylor, 36, works through Willow, a network of more than 4,000 teleworkers across 47 states. It's based in Miramar, Fla., but its CEO, Angela Selden, lives in St. Paul.

"Each worker joins Willow as an independent contractor, and the company provides them clients, which besides Walgreens includes Verizon, the American Automobile Association and Virgin Atlantic Airways, Selden said.

"'I handle anything that has to do with the Web site, and it's a huge Web site, a huge company,' Taylor said. 'I like the variety of what you can handle for a client.'

"The arrangement is also important to Taylor because she is a single mother. Her daughter, Stephanie, is 10.

"'When my daughter is off of school, she knows I'm working but she also knows that I'm at home,' Taylor said."
